AI for Space – Lifting Off with AI: From Earth to Space (Swiss {ai} Weeks on {ai}r)

„AI for Space – Lifting Off with AI: From Earth to Space“ is an online seminar series taking place as part of Swiss {ai} Weeks on September 26 from 14:00 to 16:00 CEST on Zoom. The event brings together experts from academia, industry, and policy to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the space sector and helping to address environmental and societal challenges.

The series is structured into two sessions. Each session begins with an impulse presentation by leading experts, followed by a panel discussion featuring specialists from different sectors. After the panel, there is an open „Ask Me Anything“ segment where the audience can engage directly with all speakers and panelists.

The first session, „AI at Scale—Big Data Analytics for Climate, Society, and Science,“ focuses on how AI is used to analyze satellite Earth Observation data for environmental monitoring. Topics include deforestation detection, land-use classification, snow coverage, and climate risk mapping. Speakers are Dr. Jasmin Kesselring (UZH) and Dr. Gaetan Petit (askEarth), with panelists Simon Felix (Ateleris GmbH), Henry Martin (Jua), and Valerie Zermatten (EPFL).

The second session, „AI in Space—Enhancing Mission Resilience and Autonomy,“ looks at how AI enables autonomous operations, anomaly detection, and sustainable logistics onboard satellites and space systems. Speaker Laszlo Etesi (Ateleris GmbH) will be joined by panelists Lars Bromley (UNITAR), Klaus Buchheim (Klepsydra Technologies), Col GS Ludovic Monnerat (Swiss Armed Forces), and Dr. Andrew Price (EPFL).
